Morning of the Earth...Original Soundtrack 1972 movie

Morning of the Earth is arguably the first surf movie that went beyond waves and into something of a (wordless) meditation on life based on surfing. The film is a product of it's time (very early '70's - first years of short board transition) and is full of back-to-the-country hippy vibes as well as some beautifully filmed surfing on Australian, Hawaiian and Bali waves.

The soundtrack is therefore a mixed bag of Australasian country folk (G Wayne Thomas), psychedelic prog-rock (Taman Shud), and seriously wonderful Acid Rock from New Zealand's forgotten Ticket. Their tracks Awake and Dream Chant are worth the price alone. Like the film, the soundtrack is a bit of a time machine back to a by-gone era. The soundtrack is for the nostalgic or those wanting a good compilation of early 70's Australasian psych-folk stuff. The film is still one of the all-time classic surf movies too so check it out.

The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack..Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture

Ramblin' Jack Elliott has outdone himself, or lets say his daughter has, by putting together this collection, the choices, and the voices along the way. This is true Ramblin' Jack, capturing him at various stops in more than 45 years of recording. The duet with a young Bob Dylan is a rarity. The 1998 versions of great Ramblin' Jack often performed songs (this time live at New York's Bottom Line) such as "1913 Massacre" and "Don't Think Twice" along with songs captured at the 1998 Elko, Nevada Cowboy Poetry Festival, "If I were A Carpenter" and "Cuckoo" are among the best he has ever done.

This is the soundtrack to the film documentary  produced by Alyana Elliott, and is a must for anyone interested in folk music, or American music, in the 20th century. If you have never heard of Ramblin' Jack, now is the time. If you are already a fan, this is yours.

A Mighty Wind....The Album...original soundtrack to the movie

This mockumentary about the sixties folk scene revival has become a cult classic and is from the team that made "Waiting For Guffman" and "Best In Show".

The songs are so evocative of the early 60s "Ivy League folk" era that one marvels at the fact that they're all newly written, especially for this project. Highlights include the hit "novelty song" that the Folksmen [Kingston Trio, Limeliters, etc.] can't seem to shake, "Old Joe's Place"; their earnest "authentic" rendition of the ridiculous "Never Did No Wanderin'" and then the whitewashing of that same song by the squeaky-clean New Main Street Singers [New Christy Minstrels]; two heartbreaking duets by Mitch and Mickey [Ian & Sylvia, the Farinas], "When You're Next To Me" and "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow," beautifully performed by Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara (nominated for an Oscar)and a folk version of the Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up", this is highly recommended...
