Blade Runner 2049 original motion picture soundtrack - music by Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch

Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch have created a modern masterpiece and a more than worthy successor to the classic original.

The fact that the shadow of Vangelis' legendary, groundbreaking score hangs over this soundtrack should mean certain retirement for anyone attempting to replicate the original's achievement and yet, against the odds, Zimmer and Wallfisch actually manage it. And then some. The boys dusted off the Yamaha CS-80 and by returning to the past they've created a stunning new audio landscape of the future.

The electronic soundscapes of 2049 glide and soar majestically with all the epic scale and beauty of the original Blade Runner but this time there's an industrial edge. This Blade Runner has teeth. Throughout the score there is a ferocious energy surging up in the music matched only by the moments when it becomes almost overwhelmingly beautiful.

Unlike the soundtracks for the original 1982 Blade Runner, this OST for the 2017 sequel actually contains the music from the film. So Hans and Ben are one up on Vangelis already. None of the tracks have annoying dialogue excerpts or sound effects over them either. That's two up.

The composers could have paid the ultimate tribute to Vangelis and left the opening title music for 2049 off the album. But no, it's there in all its glory. That's 3 - 0!

Thin Red Line ...original motion picture soundtrack..music composed by Hans Zimmer

Hans Zimmer, trying to avoid war-movie clichés, accompanies the dramatized carnage at Guadalcanal with a weepy and wistful score. Like the Terrence Malick film, the music, with its sad violins and underscored orchestra, invokes a war that is more introspective, a fitting backdrop to the often purple poeticisms in the voice-over narrations. Zimmer provides occasional adaptations to the American folk hymn "Christian Race," but his overall effect is much more otherworldly. Instead of the earthier martial themes associated with warlords or heroes, this is the soundtrack to a melancholy Valhalla, a story seemingly told by battlefield casualties who are already angels. Less predictable is a brief closing track (written by Francesco Lupica) strangely titled "Sit Back & Relax" that sends out a surreal "cosmic beam." --Joseph Lanza (Amazon review)

Hans Zimmer's soundtrack for "Thin Red Line" reminds one of his later work for the movie "Gladiator". At once forboding and ethereal, this soundtrack captures the essence of the island-to-island fighting that characterized the Pacific Theatre of WW2. One never knows what danger lurks behind an innocent palm or in the verdant jungles. In the midst of this are the innocent sounds of Guadacanal's residents singing and the strains of the American folk hymn "Christian Race" that causes one to think of what thoughts the soldiers of both sides might have had about the homes they were so far away from. Hans Zimmer's music creates the mood in the film, and carries it on it's own as a soundtrack. Truly inspired and beautiful.

The Last Samurai...Original Motion Picture Score...Music by Hans Zimmer

This was Hans Zimmer's 100th score since beginning his film career in 1988. A pioneer of fusing both the electronic and orchestral and the Westernized with the indigenous, Zimmer does both here with skill, drawing heavily on samples of the traditional Taiko (a massive Japanese drum) for its rhythmic action sequences, while constructing a melodic Western motif for Tom Cruise's character that's both centerpiece and counterpoint for the score's trans-cultural intent. Aside from the brief, ominous thunder of the expected action/suspense boilerplate, Zimmer has constructed passages of gentle, Asian-inflected pastoralism that have parallels with much of his evocative work on The Thin Red Line. Those cues are the score's very soul, a canvas against which his more traditional themes reverberate all the stronger.

True Romance: Motion Picture Soundtrack...very cool music

The unforgettable soundtrack to the Quentin Tarantino-scripted True Romance. Featuring "You're So Cool" by Hans Zimmer, this soundtrack has a level of coolness to it that is only matched by "Wild At Heart", and "Natural Born Killers". By no means your typical selection, it's special. Other than top-notch songs by "Chris Isaak", "Soundgarden", and "Charlie Sexton", this has music from other unfamiliar artists like "Nymphomania". The best thing here is the compositions from Hans Zimmer. They bring you right back to the film, and are excellent instrumentals.

1. You're So Cool - Hans Zimmer
2. Graceland - Charlie Sexton
3. In Dreams - John Waite
4. Wounded Bird - Charles & Eddie
5. I Want Your Body - Nymphomania
6. Stars At Dawn - Hans Zimmer
7. I Need A Heart To Come Home To - Shelby Lynne
8. Viens Mallika Sous Le Dome - Howard Blake
9. (Love Is) The Tender Trap - Robert Palmer
10. Outshined - Soundgarden
11. Amid The Chaos Of The Day - Hans Zimmer
12. Two Hearts - Chris Isaak

Green Card: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Hans Zimmer

Green Card is a beautiful score. If you have followed Hans Zimmer, you will have noticed his style changes all the time. The score is similar to Zimmer's Driving Miss Daisy or Rain Man. It's almost all synthesizers, and almost never gets depressing (unlike many scores out there). It's a fun, upbeat score that always has you feeling good, and given the right moment, can exceed that. If you like Zimmer's scores to Beyond Rangoon, Rain Man, or Driving Miss Daisy, then you will like this one. The music is romantic and catchy and always helps to remember the movie which was also brilliant!

1. Subway Drums
2. Instinct
3. Restless Elephants
4. Cafe Afrika
5. Greenhouse
6. Moonlight
7. 9am Central Park
8. Cl Concherato In A : Adagio
9. Silence
10. Instinct II
11. Asking You
12. Pour Bronte'
13. Eye On The Prize
