Dogs In Space (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) - various artists

Dogs in Space is a 1986 Australian film set in Melbourne's "Little Band" post-punk music scene in 1978. It was directed by Richard Lowenstein and starred Michael Hutchence as Sam, the drug-addled frontman of the fictitious band from which the film takes its name.

The soundtrack album was released on Chase Records in February 1987 (CLPX14), featuring several tracks from reformed "little bands" and other contemporary tracks of the time.

The album came in two versions: a censored version in a white sleeve with a band name bowdlerised to "Thrush and the C***s" and possibly-offensive song vocal tracks removed, and an "R"-rated version in a black sleeve with all band names in full, movie dialogue between the songs, and all vocal tracks in full. The album's liner notes were written by Clinton Walker.

Chase Records went out of business soon after and, despite much effort, the record has never been reissued and has remained unavailable since. It is now a collector's item, commanding high prices. It was only available on LP and cassette and was issued on CD.

Various Artists – Easy Rider (Music From The Soundtrack) - 1969

Easy Rider is the soundtrack to the cult classic 1969 film Easy Rider. The songs that make up the soundtrack were carefully selected to form a "musical commentary" within the film. The album of the soundtrack was released by ABC-Dunhill Records in August 1969. It peaked at #6 on the Billboard album charts in September of that year, and was certified gold in January 1970.

The songs on the soundtrack album are sequenced in the same order as they appear in the film, with the following differences:

"The Weight", as originally recorded by The Band for their 1968 debut album Music From Big Pink, was used in the film but could not be licensed for the soundtrack. To deal with this, ABC-Dunhill commissioned Smith, who recorded for the label at the time, to record a cover version of the song for the soundtrack album.

Two songs used in the film, Little Eva's "Let's Turkey Trot" and The Electric Flag's "Flash, Bam, Pow", were omitted from the soundtrack album.

1 Steppenwolf– The Pusher 5:50

2 Steppenwolf– Born To Be Wild 3:38

3 Smith  – The Weight 4:34

4 The Byrds– Wasn't Born To Follow 2:04

5 The Holy Modal Rounders– If You Want To Be A Bird 2:36

6 The Fraternity Of Man– Don't Bogart Me (AKA Don't Bogart That Joint) 3:05

7 The Jimi Hendrix Experience– If Six Was Nine 5:35

8 The Electric Prunes– Kyrie Eleison/Mardi Gras (When The Saints) 4:00

9 Roger McGuinn– It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) 3:40

10 Roger McGuinn– Ballad Of Easy Rider 2:15

Morning Of The Earth (Original Film Soundtrack) / Morning Of The Earth Reimagined

Morning of the Earth is a 1971 classic surf film by Alby Falzon and David Elfick.

The film's soundtrack was produced by G. Wayne Thomas and included music and songs by noted Australian music acts Tamam Shud, John J. Francis, Brian Cadd, Mike Rudd and G. Wayne Thomas. The record became the first Australian Gold soundtrack album. In October 2010, the soundtrack for Morning of the Earth (1971) was listed in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums.

The film portrays surfers living in spiritual harmony with nature, making their own boards (and homes) as they travelled in search of the perfect wave across Australia's north-east coast, Bali and Hawaii. The movie is regarded as one of the finest of its genre and noted as recording the first surfers to ride the waves at Uluwatu on the very southern tip of Bali and so bringing Bali to the attention of surfers around the world and so the beginnings of Bali as a major tourist destination.

Suburbia 1997 Film original motion picture soundtrack....music by various artists

SubUrbia (1997), directed by Richard Linklatter, is NOT a remake of the 80's movie of the same name. It has NOTHING to do with it. That aside, it is a decent film with an awesome soundtrack. Unlike most rock soundtracks which try to include as many "current" or "hot" artists, SubUrbia tries to capture a feel. Like the characters in the movie who graduated high school back in the early half of the nineties and are still living in it, the soundtrack includes tracks from Sonic Youth, the Butthole Surfers, the Flaming Lips, and others who hit their peaks back in the day too. However, this is not a lame comeback album for anyone.

From the opening Elastica track (with vocals from Stephen Malkmus (sic) from Pavement) to the simply awesome "Sunday" by Sonic Youth, this album is all killer, no filler. And they even had the guts to end it all with Gene Pitney singing "Town Without Pity". Definitely one of the best soundtracks of the decade, and even though two of the songs aren't even from the nineties, one of the best soundtracks TO the decade.

  1. Unheard Music - Elastica/Stephen Malkmus
  2. Bee-Bee's Song - Sonic Youth
  3. Bullet Proof Cupid - Girls Against Boys
  4. Feather In Your Cap - Beck
