Welcome To Woop Woop (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) - various artists

Welcome to Woop Woop is a 1997 Australian screwball comedy film directed by Stephan Elliott and starring Johnathon Schaech and Rod Taylor. The film was based on the novel The Dead Heart by Douglas Kennedy. "Woop Woop" is an Australian colloquialism referring to an inexact and extremely rustic and uncivilized location, usually in rural or remote Australia. Equivalent terms include "the boondocks" and "out in the sticks" in American English or "the back of beyond" in British English.

The film centres on an American traveller in Australia who is abducted and held captive in a dystopian cult. Similarly to the extremely over the top way the Coen Brothers' film Fargo, and its spin-off TV series mocks stereotypes about the culture of Minnesota, Welcome to Woop Woop's characters are wildly exaggerated and parodied stereotypes of Anglo-Australian Bogans from Outback desert communities.

Jónsi ‎– We Bought A Zoo (Music From The Motion Picture)

We Bought a Zoo is a 2011 American family comedy-drama film loosely based on the 2008 memoir of the same name by Benjamin Mee. It was co-written and directed by Cameron Crowe and stars Matt Damon as widowed father Benjamin Mee, who purchases a dilapidated zoo with his family and takes on the challenge of preparing the zoo for its reopening to the public. The film also stars Scarlett Johansson, Maggie Elizabeth Jones, Thomas Haden Church, Patrick Fugit, Elle Fanning, Colin Ford, and John Michael Higgins.

In August 2011, it was announced that Icelandic musician Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson, the lead singer of the band Sigur Rós, would be composing the music scores for We Bought a Zoo. Director Crowe described the choice as "only natural", since "Jónsi has been a part of the making of We Bought A Zoo from the very beginning".

The song Gathering Stories was on the shortlist of 39 songs that had a chance of being nominated for Best Original Song Oscar at the 84th Academy Awards. This song was co-written by Jonsi Birgisson and Cameron Crowe.

While the official CD release of the movie soundtrack only includes music by Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson and Sigur Rós, the complete soundtrack of the film included a variety of artists.

W./E. (Wallis and Edward)..music from the motion picture...music by Abel Korzeniowski

Abel Korzeniowski ‎– W./E. (Music From The Motion Picture)
Released: 31 Jan 2012

This is the soundtrack of a lifetime. The kind of music that brings you to the heights of life and the lows of dancing in the shadows with death...The entire soundtrack has an aching, haunting sense of loss, fearless passion and intense, bottomless-emotion, feeling to it. It's every experience you listen to music for!

Well done, simple, inspiring, nostalgic, delicate. This is very romantic with lots of calm moments and reflection windows. Yet, the true genius of Abel Korzeniowski is that it never feels slow or monotonous.

Another great aspect of this music is that few people know of it, so you feel sort of privileged when you play a beautiful song almost nobody knows.

Music for the heart and the spirit in a very simple, effective formula.

Wolf...1994 film...Original Score ...music by Ennio Morricone

Ennio Morricone’s score for the 1994 Mike Nichols movie starring Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer is rather underrated. He doesn’t do a lot of horror scores for Hollywood – you have to go back to John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982) for a memorable one. Here in Wolf he channels a jazzy noir-ish style mixed with orchestral strings and electronic synths. The result is not quite spectacular, but interesting enough for fans of Morricone. It is a score that grows on you, centering less on clear, discernible melodies; instead the music is more atonal and atmospheric, but with structural cues to guide the listener.

Watchmen..2009..original motion picture score...music by Tyler Bates

Tyler Bates has done musically for "Watchmen" what Zack Snyder has done for it in film.

What sets this score apart most from what one might expect for a "superhero" film is that it is nothing remotely like any "superhero" score, or traditional score in general. It is very non-score sounding, more like musical characterizations. It separates the film from the genre almost as much as the original comic did for it's genre way back when. In this way, it is similar to 2008's wonderfully eclectic score for "The Dark Knight" and even hearkens back to "Blade Runner" for Vangelis which was very 80's sounding then without feeling unscore-like.

Bates does an incredible job of sounding nostalgic, melancholy bittersweet and hopelessly desperate as we travel with the Watchmen through generations of heroes and happenings, conflicts and commentaries. All this without distracting or detaching ourselves from the film's immediate present day events taking place. It feels appropriately 80's while at the same time new, fresh and exciting. Breaking new ground, yet familiar. The instruments vary as well, going anywhere from lush orchestral strings to near industrial techno and rock without skipping a beat or feeling out of place. It weaves wonderfully with the artist songs Zack Snyder chose for moments throughout the movie.

When the Wind Blows original soundtrack..score by Roger Waters plus tracks from other artists

This movie by director Jimmy T.Murakami and from the book by Raymond Briggs portrays an 'English' take on the survival of a nuclear detonation by a ageing couple in a setting anyone will recognise. The first half is almost a public information film on how to survive an atomic blast, but the last half will leave you shocked, saddened and despairing beyond belief. It can move you to tears; its funny, disturbing, hypnotizingly watchable and ultimately soul destroying.

The soundtrack is very interesting and a bit on the eclectic side. There are tracks by Genesis, Paul Hardcastle, David Bowie, Squeeze and Hugh Cornwall, plus the score by Roger Waters which fits well within the context of the movie and is not unlike anything he did with Pink Floyd or on any of his own releases.

The instrumental shows Phil Collins' superior drumming and is a powerful mood piece. Surprisingly, Hugh Cornwell almost comes across as Roger's disciple in "Facts and Figures," the other good song that Roger didn't do.With Roger's pieces  there is a surprising undercurrent. If nothing else, "Towers of Faith" (his duet with the ever amazing Clare Torry) is worth the price of admission. As for the rest, well, my suggestion is to turn your CD player up rather loud and see if it doesn't give you the chills. Then, when Roger declares (in "Folded Flags) that his life is "in the hands of a second-rate actor" who was then a United States president whose finger was at least metaphorically on the button, tell me if it doesn't make you think twice!

Empire of the Sun by John Williams...original soundtrack 1987

Empire of the Sun is one of the lesser known scores by John Williams. The score starts off with a wonderful choral arrangement of the Welsh folk tune, 'Suo Gan'. There are two more choral tracks as well, 'Liberation: Exsultate Justi', and 'Exsultate Justi'. They are similar, but are beautifully composed, and prove that Williams is as much a master of choral writing as he is of fanfares and sweet themes.

Williams's own music is quite a mixed grab bag. 'Jim's New Life' is a happy "bustling town" town type piece, while 'The Streets of Shanghai' is a rousing action piece along with the patriotic British march 'The British Grenadiers'

Also worthy of mention is 'Toy Planes, Home And Hearth'. This piece is, quite simply, one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. It's simple and elegant, yet masterful, and worth the price of the album alone. This is a must have for all score fans. It's easily on the same level as Williams's other masterworks.

1. Suo Gan
2. Cadillac Of The Skies
3. Jim's New Life
4. Lost In The Crowd
5. Imaginary Air Battle
6. The Return To The City

9. Toy Planes, Home, And Hearth
10. The Streets Of Shanghai

music from and inspired by the Mel Gibson movie We Were Soldiers by various artists

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com.......The "music from and inspired by" the Mel Gibson Vietnam film is a full slate of new recordings by a wide range of mainstream stars, along with bagpipe and glee-club pieces that convey the movie's sobriety. Quiet, detailed vignettes by Mary Chapin Carpenter (Patty Griffin's "My Dear Old Friend") and India Arie ("Good Man") express the human losses inherent in the conflict, while the pop-country duo Montgomery Gentry offer "Didn't I," the plaint of the returning vet. Much of the rest is inspirational pop of various stripes. Johnny Cash and Dave Matthews team for the ethereal "For You," while Five for Fighting's "The Beautiful" recalls Matthews's most radio-ready tracks. Atmospheric moments from Christian-poppers and up-and-coming Nashville stars complete the package, which is sure to appeal both to fans of the film and those who'll apply the patriotic sentiments to present-day realities. --Bob Roget

Wonder Boys: Music from the Motion Picture (2000 Film)

Director Curtis Hanson chooses a lineup of vintage rock and R&B for the musical side of his screen adaptation of Michael Chabon's brilliant Wonder Boys. Foremost is Bob Dylan, who contributes the rocker, "Things Have Changed," as well as cuts from Blood on the Tracks, Oh Mercy, and Time Out of Mind. These 13 cuts do a fine job of limning Michael Douglas's lead character's confusion, regret, and weary-to-the-bone ambivalence. Smartly sequenced--soul giants Little Willie John and Clarence Carter fit perfectly alongside the likes of Dylan, Lennon, Van Morrison, and Neil Young--Wonder Boys the album is a stellar example of hand-in-glove movie-music supervision. --Rickey Wright (Amazon.com)

1. Things Have Changed - Bob Dylan
2. A Child's Claim to Fame - Buffalo Springfield
3. No Regrets - Tom Rush
