Love Jones (stylized as love jones) is a 1997 American romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Theodore Witcher, in his feature film directing debut. The film stars Larenz Tate, Nia Long, Isaiah Washington, Bill Bellamy, and Lisa Nicole Carson.

The movie had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 17, 1997, where it tied with Hurricane Street for the Audience Award. It was released in the United States on March 14, 1997, by New Line Cinema.

The soundtrack was released on March 11, 1997, via Sony Music.  A 2022 essay published by the Criterion Collection stated that the soundtrack's reception helped renew interest in the film after its initial theatrical underperformance. The album features a blend of R&B, neo-soul, jazz, and spoken word, reflecting the film's poetic and intimate tone. It was a commercial success, peaking at number 3 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and reaching the top 20 of the Billboard 200. The album's standout track, "The Sweetest Thing" by Refugee Camp All-Stars featuring Lauryn Hill, became a hit single and marked one of her first musical releases outside of the Fugees. Maxwell's "Sumthin' Sumthin' (Mellosmoothe)" also gained lasting recognition and remains one of his most beloved deep cuts.

Cowboy Bebop - original soundtracks series - music by Yoko Kanno & The Seatbelts

 

Cowboy Bebop is a Japanese neo-noir space Western anime television series that aired on TV Tokyo and Wowow from 1998 to 1999. The series, which ran for twenty-six episodes (dubbed "sessions"), is set in the year 2071, and follows the lives of a traveling bounty-hunting crew aboard a spaceship, the Bebop. Although it incorporates a wide variety of genres, the series draws most heavily from science fiction, Western, and noir films. It explores themes such as existential boredom, loneliness, and the inability to escape one's past.

The music for Cowboy Bebop was composed by Yoko Kanno and primarily comprises jazz, along with western and opera. Kanno formed the blues and jazz band Seatbelts to perform the music. According to Kanno, the music was one of the first aspects to begin production, before most of the characters, story, or animation had been finalized.

The Knack …and How to Get It is a 1965 British comedy film directed by Richard Lester and starring Rita Tushingham, Ray Brooks, Michael Crawford, and Donal Donnelly. The screenplay by Charles Wood is based on the 1962 play "The Knack: A Comedy in Three Acts" by Ann Jellicoe. The film is considered emblematic of the Swinging London cultural phenomenon. It was the first movie appearance of Jane Birkin and Charlotte Rampling.

John Barry contributed the jazzy score, which features a memorable organ solo by Alan Haven.

Miles Davis – Ascenseur Pour L'Échafaud (Lift To The Scaffold) - original soundtrack (Complete Recordings)

This soundtrack with the musical cues for Louis Malle's 1958 film Ascenseur Pour L'Échafaud was recorded at Le Poste Parisien Studio in Paris on December 4 and 5, 1957.

Jean-Paul Rappeneau, a jazz fan and Malle's assistant at the time, suggested asking Miles Davis to create the film's soundtrack - possibly inspired by the Modern Jazz Quartet's recording for Roger Vadim's Sait-On Jamais (Does One Ever Know), released a few months earlier in 1957.

Davis was booked to perform at the Club Saint-Germain in Paris for November 1957. Rappeneau introduced him to Malle, and Davis agreed to record the music after attending a private screening. On December 4, he brought his four sidemen to the recording studio without having had them prepare anything. Davis only gave the musicians a few rudimentary harmonic sequences he had assembled in his hotel room, and, once the plot was explained, the band improvised without any pre-composed theme, while edited loops of the musically relevant film sequences were projected in the background.

The soundtrack was not released on its own in the USA but ten songs from this soundtrack were released as one side of the album Miles Davis - Jazz Track which received a 1960 Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Performance, Solo Or Small Group.

This soundtrack might also be referred to as Elevator To The Gallows (literal translation of the French title), also known as Frantic in the US, also known as Lift To The Scaffold in the UK.

Peter Gunn is an American private eye television series, starring Craig Stevens as Peter Gunn with Lola Albright as his girlfriend, lounge singer Edie Hart. The series was broadcast by NBC from September 22, 1958, to 1960 and by ABC in 1960–61. The series was created by Blake Edwards, who, on occasion, was also writer (for 39 episodes) and director (for nine episodes).

According to Vincent Terrace, Peter Gunn was the first detective series whose character was created especially for television, instead of adapted from other media.

The series is probably best remembered today for its music, including the iconic "Peter Gunn Theme", which was nominated for an Emmy Award and two Grammys for Henry Mancini. John Lurie (born December 14, 1952) is an American musician, painter, actor, director and producer. He co-founded the Lounge Lizards jazz ensemble, has acted in 19 films, including Stranger than Paradise and Down by Law; has composed and performed music for 20 television and film works; and he produced, directed, and starred in the Fishing with John television series. In 1996 his soundtrack for Get Shorty was nominated for a Grammy Award, and his album The Legendary Marvin Pontiac: Greatest Hits has been praised by critics and fellow musicians.

This is an interesting compilation of various soundtracks from movies and exotic films of various genres. It has an Italian theme running through it and the individual tracks flow on a stand alone basis. The album is an excellent listen with thought provoking tunes.

The music is a mix of jazz, bossa nova, funk and swing.

Branford Marsalis Quartet Featuring Terence Blanchard – Music From Mo' Better Blues

 

Music From "Mo' Better Blues" is a collaborative album by Branford Marsalis Quartet and Terence Blanchard. It was released in 1990 through Columbia/CBS Records as a soundtrack to Spike Lee's 1990 film Mo' Better Blues. Recording sessions took place at RCA Studios and Sound On Sound in New York. Production was handled by Bill Lee, Delfeayo Marsalis, Raymond Jones and DJ Premier, with Spike Lee serving as executive producer. It features contributions from film stars Cynda Williams, Denzel Washington and Wesley Snipes, and American hip hop duo Gang Starr.

The album peaked at number 63 on the US Billboard 200 albums chart. Music video was released for a single "Jazz Thing". In 1991, the soundtrack received a nomination for a Soul Train Music Award for Best Jazz Album, while the song "Again Never" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Group at the 33rd Annual Grammy Awards.
