Down The Deep Dark Web (documentary) - original motion picture soundtrack - music by Frank Ilfman

Released in  2016, Down The Deep Dark Web has been described as a Gonzo-style exploration that goes beyond everything you thought you knew about the dangers, and promise, of the Darknet. Hackers, Cypherpunks and crypto-anarchists guide us ever deeper down this rabbit hole, uncovering the hidden light at the bottom of the deep, dark web. It reverses everything you thought you knew about the internet and the dangers of the digital world.

The soundtrack music is composed by Frank Ilfman, a highly talented composer whose music has been captivating audiences for years. With a background in classical music and a deep passion for electronics, Frank creates compositions that are both technically sophisticated and emotionally charged. His music has been described as a blend of new classical and emotional, lush soundscapes that transport listeners to another world.

This score is very electronic with downtempo beats combined with classical themes that make it highly listenable as a stand alone album from the documentary.

Billie Holiday – Billie (The Original Soundtrack)

Billie is a 2019 documentary film about Billie Holiday, written and directed by British filmmaker James Erskine. The film is based around interviews recorded on audio cassettes through the 1970s by Linda Lipnack Kuehl, researching a book on Holiday that was never completed because of Kuehl's death in 1978: her body was found on a Washington D.C. street, and she was deemed to have died by suicide, although that supposition is disputed by her family. Erskine's documentary "is about both Holiday — as told through the voices of people who knew her — and Kuehl's obsession with crafting her biography."

Kuehl's interviews were with friends, family members, band members, peers from 1930s Harlem, piano players, psychiatrists and a pimp. Prominent figures from the jazz world who contributed recollections include Count Basie, Charles Mingus, Jo Jones and Sylvia Syms.

The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in September 2019.

Anima Mundi ... original soundtrack recording ... music by Philip Glass

Anima Mundi is a triumph both experimentally and cathartically coaxing the listener to the edge of their seat and transporting to an "aural theme park", a feat worthy of John Williams or James Horner. It creates a genuinely engaging musical experience in the minimalist style. Philip Glass fans will adore the variety of rhythmic, harmonic and melodic material, and it's unlike anything else he's done.

While there are clearly moments when it's doing it's duty as a sound track, the overarching theme is one of primal, unadorned noise-making, only orchestrated.

The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack..Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture

Ramblin' Jack Elliott has outdone himself, or lets say his daughter has, by putting together this collection, the choices, and the voices along the way. This is true Ramblin' Jack, capturing him at various stops in more than 45 years of recording. The duet with a young Bob Dylan is a rarity. The 1998 versions of great Ramblin' Jack often performed songs (this time live at New York's Bottom Line) such as "1913 Massacre" and "Don't Think Twice" along with songs captured at the 1998 Elko, Nevada Cowboy Poetry Festival, "If I were A Carpenter" and "Cuckoo" are among the best he has ever done.

This is the soundtrack to the film documentary  produced by Alyana Elliott, and is a must for anyone interested in folk music, or American music, in the 20th century. If you have never heard of Ramblin' Jack, now is the time. If you are already a fan, this is yours.

Fahrenheit 9/11 Original Soundtrack...music by Jeff Gibbs and Various Artists

Michael Moore's indictment of the Bush administration's post-9/11 fear-mongering and rush to war in Iraq was the most unlikely blockbuster of its crucial election year, a human-scaled, deeply patriotic American reflection that became the most successful documentary in history within days of its release. Its soundtrack is arguably the most understated, if shrewdly effective, component of Moore's potent agitprop.

Composer Jeff Gibbs' brooding synth washes give the score an appropriate center of gravitas, lending an even more ironic tone to the almost obscenely bright pop and rock chestnuts (The Go Go's "Vacation," Joey Scarbury's "Theme From Greatest American Hero," REM's "Shiny Happy People," Elmer Bernstein's timeless theme from The Magnificent Seven) Moore uses to skewer his targets. Perhaps most notable is the chilling use of Arvo Part's Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten to underscore the film's stark, restrained evocation of the horrors of 9/11. Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" closes matters out with a blast of bracing, if ever cynical, hope. --Jerry McCulley (Amazon)
