20 Feet from Stardom...music from the motion picture...various artists

Among the songs included on this album is a new recording of the classic song "Lean On Me," featuring Darlene Love, as well as an original song, "Desperation" performed by The Voice finalist Judith Hill. The iconic Rolling Stones song "Gimme Shelter," is performed by Merry Clayton, a rare recording from her 1971 debut album of the same name. Also highlighted on the soundtrack are two time-honored backup singer tracks, "Young Americans" performed by David Bowie and "Walk On the Wild Side," performed by Lou Reed

20 Feet From Stardom shines the spotlight on the untold true story of the backup singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of the 21st century. Triumphant and heartbreaking in equal measure, the film is both a tribute to the unsung voices who brought shape and style to popular music and a reflection on the conflicts, sacrifices and rewards of a career spent harmonizing with others. These gifted artists span a range of styles, genres and eras of popular music, but each has a uniquely fascinating and personal story to share of a life spent in the shadows of superstardom. Along with rare archival footage and a peerless soundtrack, 20 Feet From Stardom boasts intimate interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger and Sting to name just a few. However, these world-famous figures take a backseat to the diverse array of backup singers whose lives and stories take center stage in the film.

Although these singers are usually relegated to the margins, and few, if any, become household names, their work has defined countless songs that remain in our hearts and collective consciousness. 20 Feet from Stardom juxtaposes the interviews with industry legends and the relative unknowns who support them like Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer, and Judith Hill as they illuminate the art of melding their own distinct voices with lead vocals and reveal their desires for careers as solo artists. It is a celebration of the voices from the edge, which brought shape and style to the soundtracks of our lives.

Morricone Youth Original Re-Score for The Adventures of Prince Achmed

NYC-based band Morricone Youth have recently released their new album, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, the oldest surviving animated film, via Country Club records and Light In the Attic.

Morricone Youth was formed in 1999 with a mission statement to compose, re-interpret, perform and record "music written for the moving image." The Adventures of Prince Achmed was written for Lotte Reiniger’s 1926 classic and the oldest known surviving feature film of the same name. This original re-score is a powerful and bewitching excursion through Mid-Eastern exotica, twangin' surf guitar, dub heavy afro-funk and Ethiopiques. It features concertmaster violinist Conrad Harris of FLUX Quartet and String Noise (Northern Spy). This release is the second (following September’s Night of the Living Dead) in a series of a 15 LP/EP vinyl series that coincides with each midnight movie/silent film for which Morricone Youth has written original music and live scored over the past five years at various movie theaters around NYC.

The album is available for preview and streaming HERE at Soundcloud

Over the years, the band has released a number of CD's of re-interpretations of obscure soundtrack music from the past as well as a score to an "imaginary film" entitled "Silenzio Violento," recorded and mixed by legendary engineer Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Swans, Dresden Dolls), toured and had residencies at the Knitting Factory, CBGB, Tonic and, most recently, Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg. Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) asked the band to compose and perform an original score to Hitchcock's "The Lodger" on Halloween 2013 and the band performed a improvised "chance" piece of reinterpreted French film music dictated by a live chess match between chess masters at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMOA) in connection with its Marcel Duchamp exhibit in 2012. Band members have scored for documentaries and short films and Morricone Youth's original music has been used in documentaries and television programs.

Big Fish...music from the motion picture...score by Danny Elfman

The soundtrack to Tim Burton's neo-classic moving picture Big Fish (2003), starring Ewan McGregor, Helena Bonham Carter, Marion Cotillard and Jessica Lange, collects classic pop songs and a score of longtime collaborator Danny Elfman (Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, Mars Attacks!, and others).

The soundtrack also contains a new song from Pearl Jam, specifically written for the movie: 'Man of the Hour'. The soundtrack's songs range from Bing Crosby's early 1930's Jazz hit 'Dinah' to the 1950's nostalgia of Buddy Holly's 'Everyday' and Elvis Presley's 'All Shook Up', right up to the 1960's and 1970's recollections of Canned Heat's 'Let's Work Together' and 'Ramblin' Man' by the Allman Brothers Band. The album was nominated for the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score

Superman The Movie (1978)...Original Soundtrack...Music by John Williams

This release features 25 tracks on 2 CD's packed with almost 2 1/2 hours of score! Remastered and expanded, including previously unreleased material.

Released during the era of leisure suits and pet rocks, the film Superman: The Movie has aged about as well. But the often-clumsy charms of Richard Donner's cartoonish, hit-and-miss take on the Man of Steel was blessed with at least one superlative artistic effort: John Williams's epic score. The composer's Oscar-nominated music (coming on the heels of Star Wars and Close Encounters) was a wall-to-wall heroic symphony, rife with memorable melodies and ominous arrangements. Almost every original cut on this soundtrack appears in an expanded version, supplemented by nearly a dozen previously unreleased cues and alternate takes. This is the definitive release of one of Maestro Williams's greatest scores. --Jerry McCulley (Amazon)

Young Guns Soundtrack...First Pressing release..Kickstarter Project

Support this independent record label as they release, for the first time ever, the epic score from the classic 80s film, YOUNG GUNS!

Kickstarter Project page

The Young Guns original motion picture soundtrack has never been released...until now!

After a lot of planning and hard work, rustedwave.com have acquired the rights to the music from the movie studio.  Now, they need your support so they can release the album and share the brilliant score from this cult classic 80's film.

Released in 1988, Young Guns is an action-packed western that tells the story of Billy the Kid (Emilio Estevez) and the Regulators (Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, Lou Diamond Phillips, Dermot Mulroney and Casey Siemaszko) exacting revenge upon the Santa Fe Ring during the Lincoln County War in 1878.  As good as the movie is, the score is what makes it great!

Composed by Anthony Marinelli and Brian Banks, the Young Guns score brilliantly embodies the off-kilter, emotionally unstable characteristics of Billy the Kid, both the man and the myth.  It is epic and powerful, but equally haunting with an underlying melancholy tone.

The album will be mastered from the original recordings and pressed on heavyweight 180 gram vinyl for the enhanced listening pleasure of all audiophiles out there!  It will also be released digitally on iTunes, Amazon and other platforms.

As a special "thank you" reward for certain supporters, they will be printing a LIMITED EDITION T-SHIRT (premium blend, soft comfy tee) featuring the album's artwork.  This t-shirt will not be sold commercially, so you must support the project at this level to get one!

Wolf...1994 film...Original Score ...music by Ennio Morricone

Ennio Morricone’s score for the 1994 Mike Nichols movie starring Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer is rather underrated. He doesn’t do a lot of horror scores for Hollywood – you have to go back to John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982) for a memorable one. Here in Wolf, he channels a jazzy noir-ish style mixed with orchestral strings and electronic synths. The result is not quite spectacular, but interesting enough for fans of Morricone. It is a score that grows on you, centering less on clear, discernible melodies; instead the music is more atonal and atmospheric, but with structural cues to guide the listener.

The Ballad of Ramblin' Jack..Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture

Ramblin' Jack Elliott has outdone himself, or lets say his daughter has, by putting together this collection, the choices, and the voices along the way. This is true Ramblin' Jack, capturing him at various stops in more than 45 years of recording. The duet with a young Bob Dylan is a rarity. The 1998 versions of great Ramblin' Jack often performed songs (this time live at New York's Bottom Line) such as "1913 Massacre" and "Don't Think Twice" along with songs captured at the 1998 Elko, Nevada Cowboy Poetry Festival, "If I were A Carpenter" and "Cuckoo" are among the best he has ever done.

This is the soundtrack to the film documentary  produced by Alyana Elliott, and is a must for anyone interested in folk music, or American music, in the 20th century. If you have never heard of Ramblin' Jack, now is the time. If you are already a fan, this is yours.

Heaven and Earth...Original Motion Picture Soundtrack...music by Kitaro

While regarded as one of the pioneers of the new age music genre, Kitaro is also no stranger to scoring for film and television. His music for the ‘Silk Road’ series by NHK in the early 1980's yielded four astonishing albums. A decade on, he would compose the music for Heaven and Earth (1993), the final picture of Oliver Stone’s unofficial ‘Vietnam War’ trilogy.

Kitaro won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score, which came rather unexpectedly, especially in a year that saw John Williams produced what was arguably his finest score for Schindler’s List (1993). His work for Heaven and Earth remains to be one of the most accomplished endeavours of his illustrious career.

Building from the symphonic sound of his massively-popular 1990 album Kojiki, his music here shows both dynamism and sensitivity as the melodies and arrangements echo the style of a traditional film score, yet are uniquely elevated by his penchant for using Asian instruments—our ears bear witness to the exquisite if sad sounds of the huqin (a kind of Chinese violin) in several tracks, and the powerful Taiko drums in ‘Arvn’ and ‘Village Attack/The Arrest’.

The synthesised sounds of what seem like the Japanese koto and flute are also brilliantly integrated with the orchestra, particularly in the stunning first track, ‘Heaven and Earth (Land Theme)’.

Trouble Every Day..Original Soundtrack...Music by Tindersticks

The soundtrack to the 2001 French movie, Trouble Every Day, does its job in setting the brooding, melancholy mood of a brooding, haunting and disturbing film.

For those who aren't familiar with the Tindersticks, imagine a synthesis of Angelo Badalamenti with John Cage, and early Leonard Cohen - performed inside a chapel. No comparisons are fair, since the sound is truly greater than the some of it's possible influences.

"Trouble Every Day" is more of a composed work than something that might have spontaneously come from a rock band. Many of the bass-lines are played (beautifully) by a double bass, and a full orchestra is used to great effect. Eastern sounding hand-percussion, acoustic guitar, and brass section all contribute to a mood that somehow feels both rich and austere.

The Hottest State...Original Motion Picture Soundtrack..music by Jesse Harris and various artists

The soundtrack for the film, The Hottest State, isn't just another compilation of songs pulled out of obscurity and thrown together for a movie companion piece. If anything, this album could also be categorized as a tribute record. The album features sixteen songs, plus two score passages, all recorded exclusively for the film by some of the finest names in music today, all for the benefit of paying tribute to one of the brightest new song-writing talents in the last two decades: Jesse Harris. Grammy winning singer/songwriter Jesse Harris wrote all the music for the soundtrack and serves as the album's co-executive producer along with the film's director/screenwriter/producer, Ethan Hawke. Together, they assembled a peerless group of artists to record Harris' songs: Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Cat Power, Bright Eyes, Feist, The Black Keys, M. Ward, Brad Mehldau, Tony Scherr and Argentinian newcomer, Rocha.

Adapted by Ethan Hawke from his novel of the same name, The Hottest State is a bitter-sweet romance that distils the joy, pain, erotic highs, and emotional lows of first love.

The Dish..Music from the Motion Picture..with Score by Edmund Choi

This year 2000 Australian movie is about a remote outback antenna, populated by quirky characters, that played a key role in the first Apollo moon landing. The soundtrack is what I would term the "perfect soundtrack", in that the collection of iconic 1960's songs featured in the movie take up the first 13 tracks, and the score, composed by Edmund Choi and performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, takes up the next 15 tracks. An easier way to listen to a soundtrack I think, especially one as good as this.

Fearless...music from the original soundtrack...music by Maurice Jarre

The soundtrack to the Peter Weir movie, Fearless, has every piece of music on it that made the movie so good. Even better, these are the full versions, not the edited versions used in the film. The music fits perfectly and is a credit to the composer and editors. The way they kept only the music and no dialogue during the unbelievable plane sequences at the end made more of an impact than if we had heard the actual sounds in the plane. Most notable is the 3rd Symphony, which just makes your heart cry.

It's also a very relaxing soundtrack to listen to on its own with Maurice Jarre at his very absolute best. So, if you liked the movie, and thought the music helped the atmosphere, then this is worth adding to your collection.

1. Max - Maurice Jarre
2. Mai Nozipo - Dumisani Maraire/Kronos Quartet
3. Polymorphia - National Philharmonic Orchestra/Leonard Slatkin
4. Sin Ella - The Gypsy Kings
5. Fearless - Maurice Jarre
6. Symphony No.3: 1. Lento-Sostenuto Tranquillo Ma Cantabile - Dawn          Upshaw/London Sonfonietta/David Zinman

Crooked: The Movie...Original Score and Soundtrack..Music by Various Artists...2002

Three years in the making, this 2 hour feature film is about pursuing one's dreams despite harrowing odds as it follows Sensational, a talented unknown artist who tries to break into the cutthroat and corrupt music industry. Mostly biographical and based on real events, Crooked is the rawest, edgiest music film to emerge in years capturing the heart and soul of a culture as it chronicles the struggles of an artist whose creativity knows no bounds. Features cameos by Anti Pop Consortium, Prince Be of PM Dawn, legendary graffiti artist Futura 2000, and luminaries from the Wordsound guerilla army. Written, produced and directed by Skiz Fernando.

The soundtrack is a mix of Alternative, Indie, Hip-Hop, Electronica, Rap and Dub and has now become a rare and collectible item in itself.

In 2002, music journalist S.H. Fernando Jr. (AKA "Skiz"), frustrated with the corporate hijacking of the music scene, founded WordSound Recordings, a self-described "guerilla think-tank" dedicated to continuous creation and experimentation. The label aimed at providing an arena for artists operating outside the mainstream as well as a true alternative to the formulaic and hype-driven status-quo, which at the time was being marketed as "alternative" rock, "underground" hip-hop, and "electronica." Forty full-length albums and numerous singles later, WordSound and its subsidiary, vinyl-only imprint Black Hoodz, have carved out an international reputation as one of the preeminent laboratories of musical innovation. With releases spanning such genres as dub, hip-hop, electronic, world, and just plain weird, the label has managed to elevate the game with its no-comprise D.I.Y. attitude, bucket loads of originality, and a serious commitment to upliftment through sound.

A Touch of Spice (Politiki Kouzina)..original soundtrack...music by Evanthia Reboutsika

Soundtrack to the 2003 Greek/Turkish movie, "A Touch of Spice", a story about a young Greek boy (Fanis) growing up in Istanbul, whose grandfather, a culinary philosopher and mentor, teaches him that both food and life require a little salt to give them flavor; they both require... A Touch of Spice. Fanis grows up to become an excellent cook and uses his cooking skills to spice up the lives of those around him. 35 years later he leaves Athens and travels back to his birthplace of Istanbul to reunite with his grandfather and his first love; he travels back only to realize that he forgot to put a little bit of spice in his own life.

The soundtrack by Greek composer Evanthia Reboutsika is as beautiful as the movie, with a very special mix of Greek and Middle Eastern elements reminiscent of the past. The highlights are the 2 vocal tracks "Allspice" and "Fire In the Harbour' with some of the most haunting and exquisite singing you may hear on a soundtrack. If your tastes are into "World" music, then this now rare release will certainly satisfy your needs.
