Romeo Must Die (The Album) 2000 - various artists soundtrack

Romeo Must Die is a 2000 American action film directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak in his directorial debut, and features fight choreography by Corey Yuen. The film stars Jet Li, Aaliyah (in her film debut), Isaiah Washington, Russell Wong, DMX, and Delroy Lindo. The film marks Aaliyah's only film that was released during her lifetime, before she was killed in a plane crash one year later on August 25, 2001. The plot is loosely related to William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, transplanted to contemporary Oakland with Black-American and Chinese-American gangs representing the feuding families.

Romeo Must Die: The Album soundtrack is composed of hip hop, funk and R&B music. It was released on March 14, 2000 through Blackground Records and Virgin Records in association with Warner Bros. Records (who helped co-financed the soundtrack). Recording sessions took time between May 1999 and January 2000. It features contributions from Aaliyah, who appears on fours songs, as well as B.G., Chanté Moore, Dave Hollister, Destiny's Child, Ginuwine, Joe, Lil' Mo, Mack 10, Playa, Stanley Clarke, The Comrads and more.

In the United States, the soundtrack debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart selling 203,000 in its first week. It was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America on May 2, 2000 for selling a million copies. The album sold 1.3 million copies by the end of 2000. By 2001 the album sold 1.5 million copies domestically and over 2 million copies internationally.

Down in the Delta soundtrack: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture

Sometimes when a record company/executive producer tries to combine two different artists from different musical genres to accompany a movie, it is usually a recipe for disaster. This isn't the case with Down in the Delta, the soundtrack to the movie of the same name starring Alfre Woodard.

Featuring an international "who's who" in R'n'B, alternative, blues and jazz, it (like some other soundtracks) goes  hand-in-hand with the movie. Hearing D'Angelo singing "Heaven Must Be Like This" make you wish you could see how heaven is. "Patchwork Quilt" by Sweet Honey in the Rock is another highlight, so sweet yet so haunting. "If Ever" by Stevie Wonder reminds you of  nice summer's day and everything is well. Luther's contribution "Only Human" is also another winner making it mellow yet seductive.

"One of the best things about multiartist soundtracks is the opportunity for creative pairings that otherwise might not happen. It's also common that an abundance of superior talent won't necessarily yield spectacular results. It works both ways here." -- USA Today
