Thin Red Line ...original motion picture soundtrack..music composed by Hans Zimmer

Hans Zimmer, trying to avoid war-movie clichés, accompanies the dramatized carnage at Guadalcanal with a weepy and wistful score. Like the Terrence Malick film, the music, with its sad violins and underscored orchestra, invokes a war that is more introspective, a fitting backdrop to the often purple poeticisms in the voice-over narrations. Zimmer provides occasional adaptations to the American folk hymn "Christian Race," but his overall effect is much more otherworldly. Instead of the earthier martial themes associated with warlords or heroes, this is the soundtrack to a melancholy Valhalla, a story seemingly told by battlefield casualties who are already angels. Less predictable is a brief closing track (written by Francesco Lupica) strangely titled "Sit Back & Relax" that sends out a surreal "cosmic beam." --Joseph Lanza (Amazon review)

Hans Zimmer's soundtrack for "Thin Red Line" reminds one of his later work for the movie "Gladiator". At once forboding and ethereal, this soundtrack captures the essence of the island-to-island fighting that characterized the Pacific Theatre of WW2. One never knows what danger lurks behind an innocent palm or in the verdant jungles. In the midst of this are the innocent sounds of Guadacanal's residents singing and the strains of the American folk hymn "Christian Race" that causes one to think of what thoughts the soldiers of both sides might have had about the homes they were so far away from. Hans Zimmer's music creates the mood in the film, and carries it on it's own as a soundtrack. Truly inspired and beautiful.

2012...original motion picture soundtrack...music by Harald Kloser and Thomas Wander

Original soundtrack to the 2009 blockbuster. Features a score by Harold Kloser and Thomas Wander plus tracks from Adam Lambert ('Time For Miracles') and Filter ('Fades Like A Photograph'). 2012 is the Roland Emmerich-directed film about the end of the world, Starring John Cusack, Amanda Peet and Woody Harrelson, amongst others.

Kloser creates a great story with the music, and is a good mix of touching themes and pounding excitement. His style is consistent, and in the same vein as The Day after tomorrow, but totally different in the treatment of this really awesome movie. The visual and auditory components of this movie go very well together.

This music fits each and every change of situation perfectly. The music definitely added suspense, depth and imagination quality to the film.

Twilight..the Score...music by Carter Burwell...includes "Bella's Lullaby"

Composed, orchestrated and conducted by the award-winning Carter Burwell, the Twilight score is a must-have companion to the movie experience. Burwell is a renowned composer who is well known for his work on most Coen Brothers films, including The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Burn After Reading, plus films including Being John Malkovich, Gods and Monsters, and more.

Carter Burwell paints the vivid and complex story of Twilight through these masterful compositions. The same handful of melodies pervade nearly every piece, but subtle changes in key, rhythm, dynamic and instrumentation turn them into something new and unique to each song. The almost tribal drive of the drum rhythms communicate well the primal undercurrent in the story, while beautiful and mysterious melodies vividly highlight the intensity as well as the "forbidden" element to Edward and Bella's love. The darker pieces dedicated to the bad vampires skillfully communicate the one, most important thing about these antagonists: Danger. Burwell is excellent, and composed a score PERFECTLY FIT to the story of Twilight.

This score by Carter Burwell does not disappoint. It is hauntingly beautiful, delicate, expressive music composed truly with the theme of the movie in mind. You almost feel transported to the town of Forks (covered in low clouds, mist and fog) - the music is really that powerful.

Together...music from the motion picture..original score by Zhao Lin performed by the China National SO

TOGETHER is about a young boy who is a violin prodigy and the soundtrack is one of the most beautiful scores ever released. Some of the selections are absolutely haunting. The movie is moving and insightful as is the music itself.

Babeli (aka Li Chuanyun, aka Chuanyun Li or Chuan-Yuan Li, aka 李傳韻) is the violinist heard throughout the film. (He also plays the part of Xiaochun's rival, Tang Rong.) He was 22 when he recorded this score, but he began studying violin when he was only 3-years-old. His beautiful tone is an absolute wonder to listen to.

20 Feet from Stardom...music from the motion picture...various artists

Among the songs included on this album is a new recording of the classic song "Lean On Me," featuring Darlene Love, as well as an original song, "Desperation" performed by The Voice finalist Judith Hill. The iconic Rolling Stones song "Gimme Shelter," is performed by Merry Clayton, a rare recording from her 1971 debut album of the same name. Also highlighted on the soundtrack are two time-honored backup singer tracks, "Young Americans" performed by David Bowie and "Walk On the Wild Side," performed by Lou Reed

20 Feet From Stardom shines the spotlight on the untold true story of the backup singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of the 21st century. Triumphant and heartbreaking in equal measure, the film is both a tribute to the unsung voices who brought shape and style to popular music and a reflection on the conflicts, sacrifices and rewards of a career spent harmonizing with others. These gifted artists span a range of styles, genres and eras of popular music, but each has a uniquely fascinating and personal story to share of a life spent in the shadows of superstardom. Along with rare archival footage and a peerless soundtrack, 20 Feet From Stardom boasts intimate interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger and Sting to name just a few. However, these world-famous figures take a backseat to the diverse array of backup singers whose lives and stories take center stage in the film.

Although these singers are usually relegated to the margins, and few, if any, become household names, their work has defined countless songs that remain in our hearts and collective consciousness. 20 Feet from Stardom juxtaposes the interviews with industry legends and the relative unknowns who support them like Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer, and Judith Hill as they illuminate the art of melding their own distinct voices with lead vocals and reveal their desires for careers as solo artists. It is a celebration of the voices from the edge, which brought shape and style to the soundtracks of our lives.

Trouble Every Day..Original Soundtrack...Music by Tindersticks

The soundtrack to the 2001 French movie, Trouble Every Day, does its job in setting the brooding, melancholy mood of a brooding, haunting and disturbing film.

For those who aren't familiar with the Tindersticks, imagine a synthesis of Angelo Badalamenti with John Cage, and early Leonard Cohen - performed inside a chapel. No comparisons are fair, since the sound is truly greater than the some of it's possible influences.

"Trouble Every Day" is more of a composed work than something that might have spontaneously come from a rock band. Many of the bass-lines are played (beautifully) by a double bass, and a full orchestra is used to great effect. Eastern sounding hand-percussion, acoustic guitar, and brass section all contribute to a mood that somehow feels both rich and austere.

True Romance: Motion Picture Soundtrack...very cool music

The unforgettable soundtrack to the Quentin Tarantino-scripted True Romance. Featuring "You're So Cool" by Hans Zimmer, this soundtrack has a level of coolness to it that is only matched by "Wild At Heart", and "Natural Born Killers". By no means your typical selection, it's special. Other than top-notch songs by "Chris Isaak", "Soundgarden", and "Charlie Sexton", this has music from other unfamiliar artists like "Nymphomania". The best thing here is the compositions from Hans Zimmer. They bring you right back to the film, and are excellent instrumentals.

1. You're So Cool - Hans Zimmer
2. Graceland - Charlie Sexton
3. In Dreams - John Waite
4. Wounded Bird - Charles & Eddie
5. I Want Your Body - Nymphomania
6. Stars At Dawn - Hans Zimmer
7. I Need A Heart To Come Home To - Shelby Lynne
8. Viens Mallika Sous Le Dome - Howard Blake
9. (Love Is) The Tender Trap - Robert Palmer
10. Outshined - Soundgarden
11. Amid The Chaos Of The Day - Hans Zimmer
12. Two Hearts - Chris Isaak

Tango: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Lalo Schifrin

While director Carlos Saura employs the eponymous, erotically tinged ballroom dance form both as vehicle and metaphor for his film's storytelling, Argentine composer and film and TV scorer Lalo Schifrin in turn uses the film's score as framework for a rich musical tapestry that stretches from the traditionally familiar ("El Choclo") to the dark, rhythmic fury of his own classical-dance fusion ("La Represion").

Schifrin, a six-time Oscar nominee and winner of four Grammy Awards, spent his early career as pianist for tango composing legend Astor Piazzolla; that experience, along with his accomplished classical, film, and jazz work, has informed a score that may both surprise traditionalists with its adventurous diversity and give the rest of us a thrilling introduction to a vibrant musical form that continues to evolve. Interspersed with Schifrin's marvelous original compositions is a generous sampling of traditional tango music from composers such as Piazzolla, Canario, Salgan, and Filiberto. --Jerry McCulley..Amazon.com
