Romeo Is Bleeding...original motion picture soundtrack recording...music by Mark Isham

Mark Isham's muted trumpet provides a first rate soundtrack for this compelling film. The music is atmospheric and truly haunting. It has a calming, nostalgic sound to it and brings a sense of longing for simple, yet emotionally fulfilling times. It reminds us that nothing worth having is gained without some kind of loss.

Afterglow....music from the motion picture....music by Mark Isham featuring Charles Lloyd and Gary Burton

Composer Mark Isham's growing shelf of soundtracks shows a range from orchestral tone poems to ambient soundscapes and shrewd combinations of score and source music cues. But the trumpeter and synthesizer sculptor remains an ardent Miles Davis fan, his penchant for serene horn lines and cool backdrops consistent since his days with the '70s acoustic fusion band Rubisa Patrol and in Van Morrison's band.

Isham's long relationship with director Alan Rudolph provides a plum opportunity in the bittersweet context of this romantic feature, and Isham responds with this suave program of cool jazz originals abetted by a stellar band. Charles Lloyd's ripe tenor, Gary Burton's shimmering vibes, Geri Allen's delicate piano, and Sid Page's violin trade spare lines across the drums and bass of Billy Higgins and Jeff Littleton respectively, for a set that stands on its own as atmospheric, intelligent jazz. --Sam Sutherland

The Last Time I Committed Suicide...1997 film..soundtrack album...various jazz artists

The beginning of everything self indulgent and timeless in the post WWII era of the USA. The music was be-bop jazz, the poetry and prose the written word.

This album, much like the movie that it accompanies, is a brilliant assessment of the Beat Jazz movement of the late 1950's. It draws on a selection of landmark jazz recordings, arranged in an intelligent and enjoyable progression.

From the beginning of the album, you feel it. The music that shaped a generation and continues to shape generations to come. With the first track, which opens the film, we see a young Neal Cassidy and then from track to track, we see the definition of what the Big Beat really was, not one person and not one philosophy. It was like many things in the 1950's, an explosion of sound and color and possibilities.

Anyone whose ever even heard of Jack Kerouac or Neal Cassidy will dig this one.

  1. Better Get It In Your Soul - Charles Mingus
  2. Straight No Chaser - Max Roach Quartet
  3. Move - Miles Davis
  4. It's A Metaphor - Miles Davis
  5. Sugar Blues - Dianne Reeves
  6. Shaw 'Nuff - Charlie Parker/Dizzy Gillespie
  7. Right Back Where I Started - Charlie Parker/Dizzy Gillespie
  8. A Tisket, A Tasket - Ella Fitzgerald
  9. Sixteen - Thelonious Monk
  10. The Thin Man - Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers
  11. Woody Wagon - Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers
  12. Country Girl - Javon Jackson
  13. He May Be Your Man - Dianne Reeves
  14. The Wild Stuff - Dianne Reeves
  15. Heartbreaker - The Andrews Sisters
  16. Budism - Jacky Terrasson
  17. The Suicide Suite (Original Score From The Movie) - Red Fish Blue Fish

official soundtrack release to the movie LONDON FIELDS with music by Adam Barber

Ingrooves Music Group recently released the official soundtrack to the 2018 film LONDON FIELDS. Based on the international best-seller by Martin Amis, the film stars Amber Heard, Billy Bob Thornton, Jim Sturgess, Theo James and Cara Delevingne.

LONDON FIELDS is a tantalizing, ultra-modern murder mystery about a murder that hasn't taken place yet, a darkly comic vision of a world on the brink of collapse in which every character--and society itself--has a rendezvous with death.

The LONDON FIELDS score is written and produced by Adam Barber. Currently living in Los Angeles, his work ranges from film and television, to concert works and collaborations with Indy Artists such as Meghan Toohey from The Cold and Lovely and performing in the Doom Metal group, The Stoning. Other current work includes original music work for the technology not-for-profit MOBI consortium and an independent horror film titled, Extremity. In addition to scoring LONDON FIELDS, Adam is the executive music producer, music supervisor and music editor of the film. From beginning to end, LONDON FIELDS is punctuated by his hybrid use of traditional orchestral elements juxtaposed with electronica and traditional jazz quartet.

For London Fields, Adam tracked strings in Budapest with Budapest Scoring and recorded the film’s smaller jazz-influenced ensemble in Los Angeles between his home studio and Grammy Artist Jeff Lorber’s Enchanted Way Studio’s in Pacific Palisades. The score mixer is Brad Haehnel. Throughout the score, Adam creates lush synth textures, rich with orchestral strings and performs on various instruments including electric bass, piano, Wurlitzer, marimba and vibes. Some of the score’s electronic and keyboard textures feature music software by the company Arturia, in particular, the Filters, Buchla Easel V and authentic sounding Wurli V.

While recording, Adam tracked as much as possible, the featured instrumentalists, his Rhodes Mark II Stage piano and Rhodes Bass Piano, through Ruper Neve Design’s Shelford Channel Strips; his favorite pre-amp and DI. Featured instrumentalists are: Paul Morin on double bass, Wes Smith on tenor,  baritone saxaphone and clarinet, Perice Pope on flugelhorn and trumpet with harmon mute and Gary Novak on drums.

Marty's review: the soundtrack to London Fields is a very powerful and creative mix of various musical genres from jazz to classical to electronica. Composer Adam Barber has used an array of instruments and musicians to convey multiple images in a soundscape that is highly listenable as a standout album.

The soundtrack for Zero Effect is an important part of the movie's atmospherics. It's an eclectic mix of soulful pop and jazz selections. The album portrays a real-life quality that most soundtracks don't have. A good combination of both energy-filled tracks as well as deep emotional ones.

Next Stop Wonderland...music from the motion picture...various artists..jazz, samba and bossa-nova

The fear of loneliness, a hope for romance, the occasional pang of moody nostalgia--it's all found in the light romance of Next Stop Wonderland. But few of Wonderland's plot devices work quite as convincingly at portraying these themes as the movie's soundtrack. Filled with the classic sounds of bossa nova and samba, these songs ooze with the melancholy found in the movie. There's a lot of great stuff here: classic Astrud Gilberto, Coleman Hawkins, Marcus Valle, new interpretations of Jobim. But the unexpected highlight is the original score: Claudio Ragazzi backed by the smooth-as-flan vocals of avant-jazz-guitarist-gone-Jobim-freak Arto Lindsay. Their trio of bossa-nova inspired collaborations sounds as sweet and timeless as the classic originals here.

  1. Batuacada - Bebel Gilberto/Vinicius Cantuaria
  2. Mas Que Nada - Tamba Trio
  3. Stay - Astrud Gilberto
  4. Crossed Paths - Claudio Ragazzi/Arto Lindsay
  5. Triste - Elis Regina
  6. Os Grilos (Crickets Sing For Ana Maria) - Marcos Valle
  7. One Note Samba/The Girl From Ipanema - Bebel Gilberto/Vinicius Cantuaria
  8. The Therapist - Claudio Ragazzi/Arto Lindsay
  9. Corcovado (Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars) - Astrud Gilberto
  10. The Suitors - Josh Zaentz/Sergio Brandao
  11. Baia - Walter Wanderley
  12. O Beijo (The Kiss) - Claudio Ragazzi
  13. Aquarela Do Brasil - Toots Thielemans/Elis Regina
  14. Desafinado - Antonio Carlos Jobim
  15. The Finale - Claudio Ragazzi/Arto Lindsay/Bebel Gilberto
  16. O Pato (The Duck) - Coleman Hawkins

Dingo...original soundtrack...music by Miles Davis and Michel Legrand

Michel Legrand arranged, orchestrated and conducted the music for the 1991 movie that co-stars Colin Friels and Miles Davis as a jazz legend - the fictional character, Billy Cross - who lives in Paris. It traces the pilgrimage of John Anderson, an average guy with a passion for jazz, from his home in outback Western Australia to the jazz clubs of Paris, to meet his idol, jazz trumpeter Billy Cross. Nice combo between two great artists.

Miles and trumpeter Chuck Findley share the playing throughout the album and the pieces fit well within the framework of the movie. Some unusual tracks; a blend of music and dialogue in parts. Hearing miles talking is cool, though maybe not to everybody's taste. There is still some good Miles trumpet playing here and a worthy edition for a serious Miles Davis collector.

Wolf...1994 film...Original Score ...music by Ennio Morricone

Ennio Morricone’s score for the 1994 Mike Nichols movie starring Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer is rather underrated. He doesn’t do a lot of horror scores for Hollywood – you have to go back to John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982) for a memorable one. Here in Wolf he channels a jazzy noir-ish style mixed with orchestral strings and electronic synths. The result is not quite spectacular, but interesting enough for fans of Morricone. It is a score that grows on you, centering less on clear, discernible melodies; instead the music is more atonal and atmospheric, but with structural cues to guide the listener.

Down in the Delta soundtrack: Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture

Sometimes when a record company/executive producer tries to combine two different artists from different musical genres to accompany a movie, it is usually a recipe for disaster. This isn't the case with Down in the Delta, the soundtrack to the movie of the same name starring Alfre Woodard.

Featuring an international "who's who" in R'n'B, alternative, blues and jazz, it (like some other soundtracks) goes  hand-in-hand with the movie. Hearing D'Angelo singing "Heaven Must Be Like This" make you wish you could see how heaven is. "Patchwork Quilt" by Sweet Honey in the Rock is another highlight, so sweet yet so haunting. "If Ever" by Stevie Wonder reminds you of  nice summer's day and everything is well. Luther's contribution "Only Human" is also another winner making it mellow yet seductive.

"One of the best things about multiartist soundtracks is the opportunity for creative pairings that otherwise might not happen. It's also common that an abundance of superior talent won't necessarily yield spectacular results. It works both ways here." -- USA Today

1. Believe In Love - Sunday
2. God's Stepchild - Janet
3. Heaven Must Be Like This - D'Angelo
4. If Ever - Stevie Wonder
5. Where Would I Be - The Leverts
6. I'm Only Human - Luther Vandros/Cassandra Wilson/Bob James
7. Just A Little Luv - Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men
8. We Belong Together - Tony Thompson And Antoinette
9. Don't Talk 2 Strangers - Chaka Khan
10. Let It Go - Jazzyfatnastees/The Roots
11. My Soul Don't Dream - Me'shell N'degocello/Keb'Mo'
12. Uh Uh Ooh Ooh Look Out Here It Comes - Ashford & Simpsons
13. Don't Let Nuthin' Keep You Down - Sounds Of Blackness
14. Family (Score) - Stanley Clark
15. The Rain - Tracie Spencer
16. Patchwork Quilt - Sweet Honey In The Rock

Billy's Holiday...Original Songs from the Australian Motion Picture Musical

This movie is all about a normal guy called Billy Apples. He is a social drinker and sometimes lead singer of a band. While he is doing all of this, he still manages to bring up his teenage daughter. One night while sitting at home Billy finds that he has a talent! He finds that he is able to sing like his idol, jazz/blues singer Billie Holiday. From there he is going places, from huge live performances to even cutting a hit record, but in the end he must make a choice between the life he has, and the life he once knew.

The real treat of this movie is this now rare soundtrack from 1995 featuring songs that were originally done by Billie Holiday but performed in the movie by Max Cullen himself (who manages an almost perfect impersonation of her voice). The score is jazzy, uptempo and will have you bopping, singing along and dancing around the room.

Bad Eggs...music from the motion picture by David Graney and Clare Moore..underrated gem

This rare soundtrack to the 2003 Australian movie crosses several genres including jazz, lounge, film noir and even some quiet soul funk. The interesting thing is that it was all done by the same composers, David Graney and Clare Moore. David and Clare have come up with a score that resembles scores to movies like Ocean's Eleven and Pulp Fiction with shades of Ry Cooder and David Holmes. Whilst essentially a soundtrack album, this is one that can be listened to on its own and still be entertaining (even with the snippets of dialogue added in, which aren't obtrusive). It reminds one of those crime thrillers from the 40s and 50s but with a contemporary sound. Possibly one of those underrated gems for soundtrack collectors. Oh, and the movie itself is one very funny black comedy.

Finding Forrester ...music from the motion picture featuring Miles Davis

Topnotch Miles Davis music complements Gus Van Sant's film about an urban youth (Rob Brown), torn between basketball and writing, who meets a reclusive novelist (Sean Connery). The unlikely tale is supported by a generous sampling of Davis's early 1970's work nodding to Ornette Coleman and guitarist Bill Frisell. With the help of Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Tony Williams, Davis molded his second "classic" quintet into a groundbreaking mix of funk and rock that created something far beyond the reaches of fusion. Both "Recollections" and "Lonely Fire" hail from Davis's landmark Bitches Brew sessions (finally seeing release as The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions in October 1998) and offer a calming, nearly ambient effect. This combined with Davis's polyrhythmic funk--"Black Satin" from On the Corner and Ornette Coleman's own independent approach toward improvisation make for a solid sampler of jazz in a transitional age. --Rob O'Connor (Amazon review)

The "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" medley is by the late, great, Hawaiian singer, Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo`ole. There are web sites dedicated to him, and other music is available, with the Makaha Sons and solo. He was born May 20, 1959 and passed away at age 38. It is always something special to hear his voice floating in the air around us.

1. Recollections - Miles Davis
2. Little Church - Miles Davis
3. Black Satin - Miles Davis
4. Under A Golden Sky - Bill Frisell
5. Happy House - Ornette Coleman
6. Over The Rainbow (Photo Book) - Bill Frisell
7. Lonely Fire (Excerpt) - Miles Davis
8. Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World - Israel "Iz" Kamakwiwo'ole
9. Vonetta - Miles Davis
