Stu Phillips – Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls - The Original Soundtrack (Limited Edition, Reissue)

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is a 1970 American satirical musical melodrama film starring Dolly Read, Cynthia Myers, Marcia McBroom, Phyllis Davis, John LaZar, Michael Blodgett, Erica Gavin, and David Gurian. The film was directed by Russ Meyer and written by Roger Ebert from a story by Ebert and Meyer.

Originally intended as a sequel to the 1967 film Valley of the Dolls, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls was instead revised as a parody of the commercially successful but critically reviled original. Beyond met a similar fate; critics initially panned it, but it became a box office success. The film developed a cult following in subsequent decades and earned some critical reappraisal for its satirical and metafictional elements.

This is the special limited edition release of the soundtrack to the Russ Meyer movie, recorded in 1970. Most of the film's music was written by Stu Phillips. Phillips adapted Paul Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice for the psychedelic scene at Z-Man's house near the film's end.

Members of the fictitious Carrie Nations neither sing nor play their own instruments in the film. Vocals for the lip-synced songs were performed by Lynn Carey, a blue-eyed soul singer based in Los Angeles, together with Barbara Robison, the lead singer of Peanut Butter Conspiracy. Carey's and Robison's voices are showcased on the apocalyptic rocker "Find It" (by Stu Phillips and Carey), the earnest folk anthem "Come With the Gentle People" (by Stu Phillips and Bob Stone), the raunchy R&B of "Sweet Talking Candyman" (by Phillips and Stone), the lilting ballad "In the Long Run" (by Phillips and Stone), and the soulful strut of "Look On Up At the Bottom" (also by Phillips and Stone). Carey also sings "Once I had Love", written by Stu Phillips and herself.

Strawberry Alarm Clock performed the mid-tempo rocker "Girl from the City" (written by Paul Marshall), and the power pop anthem "I'm Comin' Home" (also by Marshall) during the first party scene at Z-Man's house. The film's title song was performed by A&M artists The Sandpipers and is heard twice near the end of the movie. The group released the song as a single and on their 1970 Come Saturday Morning LP.

Blade Runner 2049 original motion picture soundtrack - music by Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch

Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch have created a modern masterpiece and a more than worthy successor to the classic original.

The fact that the shadow of Vangelis' legendary, groundbreaking score hangs over this soundtrack should mean certain retirement for anyone attempting to replicate the original's achievement and yet, against the odds, Zimmer and Wallfisch actually manage it. And then some. The boys dusted off the Yamaha CS-80 and by returning to the past they've created a stunning new audio landscape of the future.

The electronic soundscapes of 2049 glide and soar majestically with all the epic scale and beauty of the original Blade Runner but this time there's an industrial edge. This Blade Runner has teeth. Throughout the score there is a ferocious energy surging up in the music matched only by the moments when it becomes almost overwhelmingly beautiful.

Unlike the soundtracks for the original 1982 Blade Runner, this OST for the 2017 sequel actually contains the music from the film. So Hans and Ben are one up on Vangelis already. None of the tracks have annoying dialogue excerpts or sound effects over them either. That's two up.

The composers could have paid the ultimate tribute to Vangelis and left the opening title music for 2049 off the album. But no, it's there in all its glory. That's 3 - 0!

Kate & Leopold...music from the motion picture...composed by Rolfe Kent

Rolfe Kent provides an outstanding score for this James Mangold(director/screenwriter) story from Steve Rogers(original story/screenwriter).

With shades of Henry Mancini, various cues take a fun, quirky and comedy with sprinkles of romance, like "Charade" or "Man's Favorite Sport", much like Mancini, Rolfe lends a flavor of JAZZ, WALTZES and even MARCHES, that seems to fit and work...just give a listen to "YOU DID SO GREAT"(Kate's Theme), like something out of another Mancini film "The Great Race". What Rolfe has done for this picture is to give it texture and fabric that pulls off many scenes. So "film-score-buff" collectors, if it's good listening...you've come to the right place for comedy, light and whimsical music...as Henry Mancini lives through Rolfe Kent.

Anatomy of A Murder..from the sound track of the motion picture..music by Duke Ellington

With DUKE ELLINGTON and Billy Strayhorn at the helm, there is no question that the soundtrack to one of the most controversial Hollywood films of its time will take the listener's breath away.

Released in 1959, the film, Anatomy Of A Murder, was banned in various American cities because of its language and sexual and violent references. But the soundtrack to the film stood out at the very beginning, being one of the best jazz compositions out of all: it lures deep, seductive and eloquent, like the scent of a femme fatale.

Thin Red Line ...original motion picture soundtrack..music composed by Hans Zimmer

Hans Zimmer, trying to avoid war-movie clichés, accompanies the dramatized carnage at Guadalcanal with a weepy and wistful score. Like the Terrence Malick film, the music, with its sad violins and underscored orchestra, invokes a war that is more introspective, a fitting backdrop to the often purple poeticisms in the voice-over narrations. Zimmer provides occasional adaptations to the American folk hymn "Christian Race," but his overall effect is much more otherworldly. Instead of the earthier martial themes associated with warlords or heroes, this is the soundtrack to a melancholy Valhalla, a story seemingly told by battlefield casualties who are already angels. Less predictable is a brief closing track (written by Francesco Lupica) strangely titled "Sit Back & Relax" that sends out a surreal "cosmic beam." --Joseph Lanza (Amazon review)

Hans Zimmer's soundtrack for "Thin Red Line" reminds one of his later work for the movie "Gladiator". At once forboding and ethereal, this soundtrack captures the essence of the island-to-island fighting that characterized the Pacific Theatre of WW2. One never knows what danger lurks behind an innocent palm or in the verdant jungles. In the midst of this are the innocent sounds of Guadacanal's residents singing and the strains of the American folk hymn "Christian Race" that causes one to think of what thoughts the soldiers of both sides might have had about the homes they were so far away from. Hans Zimmer's music creates the mood in the film, and carries it on it's own as a soundtrack. Truly inspired and beautiful.

2012...original motion picture soundtrack...music by Harald Kloser and Thomas Wander

Original soundtrack to the 2009 blockbuster. Features a score by Harold Kloser and Thomas Wander plus tracks from Adam Lambert ('Time For Miracles') and Filter ('Fades Like A Photograph'). 2012 is the Roland Emmerich-directed film about the end of the world, Starring John Cusack, Amanda Peet and Woody Harrelson, amongst others.

Kloser creates a great story with the music, and is a good mix of touching themes and pounding excitement. His style is consistent, and in the same vein as The Day after tomorrow, but totally different in the treatment of this really awesome movie. The visual and auditory components of this movie go very well together.

This music fits each and every change of situation perfectly. The music definitely added suspense, depth and imagination quality to the film.
